How to dispose of aluminium foil and lids
Recycling aluminium is highly effective and can save up to 14,000 kWh per tonne of material. That is the same amount of electricity which 4 British households use on average over a year.
Clean aluminium foil and foil trays (but also cans) can be recycled with your mixed recycling in the blue bag/ bin. To recycle your foil please clean it thoroughly and compress it into a ball or you could push it into an aluminium can. Loose sheets of foil cannot be distinguished easily from paper at our materials recovery facility so please ensure it is scrunched up.
No foil-like films please
Do note that crisp packets and other foil-like films cannot be recycled; they need to go in with your red general waste bag/bin.
